A lot of people find it weird that I claim conservative over liberal. So I want to clear a few things up because like most groups and aggregates in society, conservatives are wrongly represented by a select few. Just because I am conservative does not mean that:
I am against reparations
I am against Gay rights
I hate the environment
I regard Ronald Reagan as the second coming of Jesus
I hate Muslims/Arabs,
or anything else I can’t think of right now
Concerning reparations; basically the groups entitled to it (which you can read HERE on my reparations post) must earn it. I don’t mean that every Juan, Rick, and Ashy Larry who wants to go out and get some rims is given millions of dollars by the government because they happen to be a minority. But if a student is eligible and graduates high school (no GED not accepted) with at least a 3.0 (regular or honors classes) or at least a 2.75 (more challenging classes like AP, IB) and has a college admissions standardized test score at or above the average should get to go to college for free (barring circumstances like maintaining a 3.0 in challenging majors and a 3.3 in less challenging ones). This would provide more people with a means towards a decent education.
Concerning gay rights; simply put…Gay people pay taxes too. They should be entitled to reap the same benefits as other taxpaying citizens. The city in which I grew up has a place called 4th street live. This is in the downtown area (where many minorities and/or poor people actually live due to various geographical and socio-economic reasons). 4th street live however is intended to bring in yuppies from the suburbs to spend their rich parents money there. To make it more appealing to these culturally sheltered douchebags they enforce a not-so-strict dress code. The more ‘hood’ someone looks (hairstyle, speech, mannerisms, skin tone), the more ‘yuppyish’ they have to dress (A&F, Hollister, and Douche Express, whatever). The security there enforces this policy almost to death, meaning that I couldn’t go there wearing some loose fitting jeans and a polo that didn’t cut off my circulation. My taxes go to pay for that place and yet I can’t partake in the same festivities as other people who pay taxes. If I get so upset about this imagine how Gay people must feel when people say they can’t get married.
Concerning the environment; I love the Earth (nature, not so much) and enjoy breathing good air. I don’t recycle, but I do reuse and I never knowingly pollute.
Concerning Ronald Reagan; He’s an evil man (socially speaking). Even though drugs (of all sorts) are bad (mmkay), making an entire war on drugs that’s emphasis was/still is the Black community is horrid (crack cocaine gets a heavier sentence than powdered coke). Plus this war is terrible. Any other official war would not had lasted this long because would have ended a long time ago with the current results (which leads me to believe that Huey was right all along).
Concerning Islamic-phobia; People are dumb. I’m not dumb. Thus I won’t dislike someone just for their spiritual/cultural beliefs (except Nazis). But liberals are also guilty of this. Hollywood is liberal, and look how much anti-Muslim/Arabic crap they put out.
Basically the stereotypical views of conservatives aren’t in line with my mode of thinking. I’m conservative because I believe in:
- pro-life views on abortion
- focus on stronger families (however, by families I don’t mean just heterosexual ones)
- opposition to the government’s involvement in values education
- prison reform that focuses on rehabilitation through education and labor
- protection of 2nd Amendment rights
- reforming welfare for the poor and needy
- greater financing for education
- lower taxes with spending focused on education, defense (not offense), and infrastructure
- placement of tariffs on countries that do not uphold human rights
- emphasis on domestic spending
- ending energy dependence on foreign nations
I believe that my community (as well as the entire country) would greatly benefit from true conservative leadership emphasizing the aforementioned values. This isn’t to say that a liberal leader wouldn’t be able to lead the country into prosperity as well; I would just prefer a conservative one. But, it depends on the person as well.
